The attack was swift, surgical, and professional. This was not vandalism. This was an execution. Forensic analysis suggests a coordinated, multi-vector assault originating from multiple jurisdictions. Tracked IP blocks route through Luxembourg, the Channel Islands, and a notorious data center in Curaçao known for harboring shell companies and anonymous servers.

The question is not how this happened. The question is: who benefits from a world that no longer knows?

To answer that, one must look at the stories we published leading to this attack. We were not just reporting on a legal dispute; we were dissecting a machine, a machine built to extract billions from the people of Southeast Asia and funnel it into the pockets of offshore financiers, former spies, and the intelligence operatives they hire.

The Manila Conclave and the Shadows of Hanuman

In late July, KnowSulu exposed the Secret Manila Conclave. Paul Cohen and Elisabeth Mason, lead counsels for the claimants, met quietly with a group of individuals who do not belong anywhere near a courtroom.

Let us name them again, because they are the reason our servers are cold:

• Charles George Webb, director of the London-based intelligence consultancy Hanuman. Webb does not do "legal strategy." He does influence operations. His previous work? "Manipulating governments through public opinion" and identifying local grievances to leverage against sovereign states. His godfather is former MI6 officer Michael Oatley. The apple does not fall far from the tree.
• Matthew Ryan Williams of Chancery Advisors, a man with deep ties to U.S. intelligence projects across Southeast Asia. He has spent decades working in the grey zone between corporate security and state-sponsored intelligence gathering.
• Richard Jacobson, a former CIA station chief based in Indonesia. A man who spent his career running assets and destabilizing networks for the Agency.

Why would a legal team need a former CIA officer and an MI6-linked influence operative? They don’t, not for a lawsuit. But for a covert campaign aimed at manipulating Filipino society, stirring nationalist fervor, and forcing a political payout from a sovereign state? They are essential.

The Horizon Blueprint: How Therium Built This Monster

Our investigation, "The Horizon Blueprint," traced the financial architecture back to its source. We revealed how Therium Capital Management, a litigation funder operating through a shell in Jersey, perfected this model.

The Post Office Horizon scandal in the UK was the dry run. Therium funded the sub-postmasters' case. The public saw a feel-good victory. What they did not see was the fine print: of the £58 million settlement, nearly £46 million vanished into legal fees and funder returns.

The victims got scraps. The funders got rich.

And critically, the funding agreement gave Therium the right to "attend committee meetings in whatever manner they deem suitable" . They were in the room. They were controlling the strategy. They were deciding which witnesses to put forward and which narratives to suppress.

Now look at Sulu. Same funder. Same Jersey shell structures. Same playbook. The only difference is the scale: $15 billion, not £58 million. And this time, when the legal avenues started closing, when the Paris Court of Appeal nullified the sham award on December 9th, when the ICSID threw out their $18 billion claim against Spain as "manifestly without legal merit”, they did not just need control of a courtroom. They needed control of the narrative.

They needed information dominance.

Enter Hanuman: The Intelligence Wing

When Therium realized that European courts were no longer fertile ground, they pivoted. Intelligence Online recently reported that Therium is now seeking ways to continue the dispute beyond arbitration, and those efforts are being led by Charles Webb and Hanuman.

Albert Michael Arbuthnott, a director of Hanuman Partners and a man of British peerage, sits at the intersection of Westminster respectability and offshore opacity. While Lord Arbuthnot of Edrom defends litigation funding in the House of Lords as a tool of "access to justice," his near-namesake's firm is running what amounts to a private intelligence operation against the interests of the Filipino people.

This may shed some light on the architecture of the attack on KnowSulu.

The Jersey Countdown: March 2026

Now let us look at the calendar.

On December 9th, 2025, the Paris Court of Appeal killed the arbitration award. But the story did not end there. In a landmark ruling, the Royal Court of Jersey greenlit counterclaims against the Sulu heirs, their lawyers (Cohen and Mason), and significantly, their funders at Therium. The allegation? An "unlawful means conspiracy”.

The next major hearing in Jersey is scheduled for March 2026. That is now just weeks away.

In that lawsuit, the plaintiffs allege that by continuing with the arbitration and pursuing enforcement despite Spanish court orders, the Sulu heirs, their lawyers, and the funders coordinated to use unlawful means, namely, the violation of Spanish court orders, to advance their campaign.

The evidence for this conspiracy? It was sitting on our servers. We had the documents. We had the timeline of meetings between Cohen, Webb, and Jacobson. We had the financial trails leading from Jersey to Manila to London.

They could not let those documents see the light of a Jersey courtroom.

The Timing Is the Confession

Ask yourself: why now? Why launch a full-scale digital assassination of an independent journalism site based in the Philippines, run by Filipinos, for Filipinos?

Because the discovery phase in Jersey is imminent. Because the defendants in that case, Cohen, Mason, Therium, and now potentially Hanuman, are required to produce evidence. And KnowSulu.ph was connecting the dots.

We were witnesses. And in the world of espionage and high finance, you do not cross-examine a witness. You silence them. This was not a hack. This was litigation support by other means.

The same people who hired a former CIA station chief to advise on "public dynamics" in Manila are perfectly capable of hiring a cyber-mercenary team out of Eastern Europe or the Caribbean to take down a website. The budget for this operation is a rounding error on Therium's balance sheet.

The Myth and The Money and the House of Cards

There is another layer to this, one that connects to the older, stranger stories we have told.

The Sulu claimants have long peddled narratives of trillions in gold hidden in international banks, of secret custodians and Vatican trusts. These stories, involving figures like Fr. Jose Antonio Severino Romana and the so-called “Tallano gold”, are dismissed by mainstream observers as fantasy.

But fantasy serves a purpose. Fantasy attracts investors. Fantasy justifies fees. Fantasy keeps the dream alive for the nominal heirs while the funders skim millions in “expenses” and “management fees.”

And when a website starts pulling back the curtain on that fantasy, when we start showing that Citibank and UBS have publicly denied any involvement, that the documents are forgeries, that the “heirs” are being used as pawns, you threaten the entire house of cards.

The gold may be mythical, but the money changing hands is real.

A Theory of the Case: The Three Culprits

Based on the information we shared before the lights went out, we have constructed a theory of who is responsible for this attack. There are three concentric circles of culpability:

1. The Inner Circle: Hanuman and Charles Webb. This is the operational arm. Webb's firm, Hanuman, is explicitly in the business of "influence" and "strategic advisory." They have the skills, the contacts, and the deniability to contract a takedown. They have done this before in other jurisdictions. The Manila meeting was not a social call; it was a war council. Now we know.

2. The Financiers: Therium Capital Management. They hold the purse strings. They have over $20 million already sunk into this claim. With the Jersey hearing approaching and their entire investment at risk of being exposed as part of an "unlawful conspiracy," the cost of silencing a website is negligible. They are facing exposure on two fronts: the legal defeat in Paris and the conspiracy case in Jersey. Their narrative is collapsing. Opacity is their only remaining weapon.

3. The Beneficiaries: The Sulu Claimants Themselves. Fuad Kiram and the others are, in many ways, victims of this machine as well. But they are also complicit. They have allowed their names and their ancestors' legacy to be used as a vehicle for foreign financial extraction. They benefit from the myth. And they benefit from the silence. Every day that KnowSulu is dark is a day they do not have to answer for the fact that not a single peso of this $15 billion claim has ever, or will ever, reach the people of Sulu.

The KPI of Fear

In the world of intelligence and business, there is a concept known as a Key Performance Indicator (KPI). It is a metric used to measure the success of an operation.

For us journalists, page views are a metric. For a politician, votes are a metric. But for an organization like KnowSulu, the ferocity of the effort to silence us is our true KPI.

The fact that someone felt the need to deploy significant resources coordinated across multiple jurisdictions, involving both cyber-mercenaries and intelligence operatives, to erase KnowSulu.ph from the internet tells us one thing, and one thing only:

The Archive Lives

They may have taken our site down. But they cannot take the story down.

The timeline of the Manila Conclave, the Jersey conspiracy, and the Horizon Blueprint — all of it exists beyond any single server or domain. When they silenced KnowSulu.ph, they believed the archive would disappear with it.

They misunderstood something fundamental about Sulu.

History here has never lived inside databases. It lives in memory, in lineage, in stories carried across generations long before the internet existed. In the archipelago there is a quiet belief that truth, once spoken, cannot be buried for long. It resurfaces — like the tide returning to shore. And so have we.

It is an admission that the families of Sulu are being used as pawns in a game where the only winners are the ones wearing suits in London and counting profits in the Channel Islands. And it is an admission that the truth, documented, sourced, and fearlessly published, is the greatest threat to those who seek to profit from our history. The silence they tried to create is the loudest confirmation of our work.

KnowSulu may have been forced into the dark, but the story has returned under a new banner. We are back, and the work continues at know-sulu.ph. Some would call it persistence. Others call it Barakat. Whatever the name, the result is the same. The story continues.
